Social Media Activism and why it is probably useless
Looking back at the recent tragedies that have happened in the past 5 years has really made something quite obvious to notice and that is...
The Useless Advent of Social Media activism
At the night of the outbreak of the December 16 tragedy, Facebook and Twitter were over-flowing with hashtags and news headlines being shared all across the globe.
The response we are seeing, in this case, is the same thing as lighting up candles at Jantar Mantar, except it's way less personal and less effective even if the offline activism were to a considerable level.
Even though these actions help people get involved, the point always comes down to the usability of online activism, which is not exactly zero but also not reliable enough.
In the night of the day the news of the Peshawar incident broke out, we still saw the same thing happen all over again. There is no point in clarifying here. We all will probably agree that we can't always reside to social media activism to solve our problems.
However, we have usually seen the little amount of usability of online news breaks in the form of response from the concerned authorities but again, they aren't obliged to respond to us on social media.
